What is considered broad shoulders?

Have you ever heard the saying, “shoulders as broad as a barn door”?

Well, while we may not want our shoulders to be quite that wide, having broad shoulders can certainly be a desirable trait for many fitness enthusiasts.

But what exactly is considered “broad” when it comes to our shoulders?

First off, it’s important to note that the width of our shoulders is largely determined by our bone structure.

So while certain exercises can help to build and define the muscles surrounding our shoulders, they won’t be able to change the actual width of our bones.

That being said, broad shoulders are generally considered to be shoulders that are wider than our hips.

This creates the coveted “V-taper” look, where our upper body narrows down towards our waist.

Having broad shoulders can also help to make our waist appear smaller, which can be a nice bonus for those of us looking to achieve a more aesthetically pleasing physique.

So, how can we go about building and defining our shoulder muscles to accentuate our natural width?

One of the best exercises for this is the overhead press.

This exercise targets the deltoid muscles, which are responsible for the roundness and definition of our shoulders.

Other effective exercises include lateral raises, front raises, and rear delt flyes.

Of course, it’s important to remember that our shoulders are just one small part of our overall fitness journey.

In order to achieve a well-rounded physique, we should also be focusing on our nutrition, cardiovascular health, and strength training for other muscle groups.

When it comes to nutrition, it’s important to fuel our bodies with nutrient-dense foods that support our fitness goals.

This means plenty of lean protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates.

Some great options include grilled chicken or fish, avocado, and sweet potatoes.

Finally, don’t forget to give your body ample time to rest and recover.

Overtraining can lead to injury and burnout, so make sure to listen to your body and take rest days when needed.

So, there you have it — the scoop on what is considered “broad shoulders”.

While genetics certainly play a role, incorporating targeted exercises and a well-balanced nutrition plan can help us to make the most of what we’ve got.

Remember, fitness is a journey, not a destination — so enjoy the process and celebrate your progress along the way!
